Skiing and hiking are popular outdoor pastimes here while wineries, breweries, and quirky shops dominate the indoor tourist trade. This mountain town is quite literally mountains of fun!
Ripley’s Believe It Or Not
Welcome to the home of the original Ripley’s museum. Opened in 1970 in Gatlinburg, the museum was set ablaze in 1992 as a result of faulty electrical wiring in a neighboring shop. In 1994, Ripley’s reopened better than ever and began expanding into what is now Ripley’s Eight Wonders of the Smoky Mountains. There are two outdoor mini-golf courses, a mirror maze/candy factory, a haunted adventure, a 3D moving theater, and the Guinness World Records Museum. Individual attractions are available as well as combo packages if you decide to see everything. Check out their website for more details: http://www.ripleys.com/gatlinburg/odditorium/
This attraction is much more than just a ski resort. Whether you’re traveling to Gatlinburg in the winter or summer there is something here for everyone. Try the aerial tramway if you want a bird’s eye view of the Smoky Mountains. Families with children will enjoy the Ski Mountain Coaster, Alpine Slide, Wildlife Encounters, and Kiddie Land Park. Each attraction is $3.50 but combo packages are available for as little as $22. Visit their website for more details: http://obergatlinburg.com/all-activities/#
Hollywood Stars Cars Museum
Anyone that likes movies and cars will love this museum. Here they have everything from the original Batmobile to the Terminator’s motorcycle to the DeLorean Time Machine. If it’s a famous automobile and has appeared on television or film within the last fifty years, there’s a good chance you’ll find it here. They are constantly adding to the collection so the museum is actually a bit more vast than their website would lead you to believe. Tickets are $13 but purchasing online will earn you a couple bucks discount. Here’s their website: http://www.starcarstn.com/index.html.
