About  Rockland

An absolute treasure of a vacation spot. Rockland is quaint, quiet, and of course, very beautiful, but the town also has much to offer in the way of unique vacation activities. Rockland is nicknamed “Vacationland” by the locals, many of whom suggest starting your adventure right there on Rockland’s own Main Street. There you’ll find shops, eateries, theatres, and plenty of opportunities to get acclimated to the town and get your souvenir shopping finished all at once!

Main Lobster Parade

Love seafood? Good, the folks in Rockland do too. They love it so much that every year, first week of August, they hold the Main Lobster Festival. This is five days of coastal fun, food, and entertainment. This is a big event. People come from all over the world to sample some of Maine’s succulent lobster, so be sure to book your vacation property with Southern Journeys early.

Enjoy a huge lobster parade, arts and crafts vendors, live music, and brewery tastings.  The kids can spend the day at the Marine Experience Tent where they can see all manner of sea life up close and even get to hold some of the animals. There’s a 5K for the adults and a one-mile run for the kiddies. Finally, go to the lobster cook-off, which is not to be missed.  See the website for more details: http://www.mainelobsterfestival.com/.

Farnsworth Art Museum

This museum specializes in the preservation of work of New England artists. Their chief exhibition is the work of Andrew Wyeth, famous New Englander, and his family. What’s great about this museum is that they leave plenty of room for visitors to discover new artists and different mediums of art, ranging from historic figures to the contemporary. Tickets are $15 for adults, but free for children $16 and under. Hours change according to the seasons—be sure to check that before booking your trip.  See their website for more details: http://farnsworthmuseum.org/.
