About St. George
What a great area for travel. St. George, Utah is where the desert meets the mountains in this hybrid geographical area. The resort area is located in the northernmost part of the Mohave Desert and is known for its proximity to some of the most awe-inspiring and untouched national parks in the United States. St. George itself has an interesting history.
Be sure to check out the ancient ruin and petroglyphs left behind by Native American tribes. Disaster tourists will be interested to know that St. George once bore the brunt of an above-ground nuclear fallout in the early 1950’s. Most of the radiation damage was caused by high winds, but some of the effects can still be seen today.
Tourists can really just take their pick. There are parks everywhere in this area, and they are all a very short driving distances. Zion National Park, Dixie Red Rock, and Snow Canyon State Park are the big favorites. For families with small children Snow Canyon is probably the best choice because of the soft sand dunes the kids can spend hours getting dirty in. The beaches are clean, well-maintained, and are set up for boating and fishing as well as swimming. The scenery is truly a sight to call home about, so be sure to take a camera—you’ll be taking plenty of pictures.
