About Charlevoix

The slogan for this resort town is “Charlevoix the beautiful” which does all it needs in order to sum up the magical scenery. Charlevoix borders Lake Michigan and Lake Charlevoix supplying a plethora of outdoor winter and summer water activities for vacationers to enjoy. Go jet-skiing on Lake Michigan in the warm months and ice fishing in the winter. There is something here for every type of outdoor enthusiast.

Special Events

Charlevoix has become known slowly but surely over the years for its fantastic festivals. Check the city website for more events but the largest and most well-known is probably the annual Apple Fest in October. Michigan is known for its apples and the festival brings out that pride with delicious apple-based foods, family fun, and music. Over 125 vendors participate selling arts and crafts and, of course, apple goods. There are petting zoos and pony rides for the kids and apple picking orchids the whole family will enjoy.

Mushroom Houses

The Mushroom Houses, as they are aptly called by the locals, are a collection of small stone houses built by Earl Jones. The houses have recently seen a spike in tourism because they happen to strongly resemble elf or “hobbit houses” so these enchanted fairytale dwellings are now available for touring. This is the largest collection of architecture of this design in the United States and not to be missed.
