About Moorea

This island paradise is famous for its ring of white sand beach, expansive underwater reef, and fruit plantations. Popular pastimes here include hiking the terrain and coconut fields, deep sea diving, and ATVs.

Fruit Juice Factories and Plantations

One of Moorea’s main forms of industry is agricultural farming of goods like coffee, vanilla, and tobacco. The tastier crops consist of pineapple, noni fruit, papaw, guava, lemon, mango, and grapefruit. These fruits are made into liquors, brandies, jams, candy, and of course, juices, all of which you can sample all around the islands at road stands and markets. For the full treatment though, head to a plantation tour and learn about the process, products, and history of plantation life.

Papetoai Village

This 19th-century village is home to the oldest standing European building in the South Pacific, the mission church deliberately built atop a Moorean spiritual ground. The church and many of the original structures have survived the ages and are open for touring. Guests can rent a jeep or join a tour group to visit the tiny village on the coast. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, it’s about a four-mile hike on the trail through the jungle to get to the village. There is no official website for the village, but here is Moorea’s visitor page which can tell you all about it: https://www.viator.com/Moorea-attractions/Papetoai/d5182-a9154.

Everyone snorkels in Moorea because it’s often hailed as the best place in the world to do so. The reef is vast and varied, while the waters in the lagoons are quite gentle which makes for an amazing level of visibility, and shore snorkeling is available at certain accommodations. The rest have shuttles which will take you to a drop-off point. Remember this, though: Just because the underwater life is beautiful, doesn’t mean it isn’t dangerous. There are certain shells, fish, and sea plants that can be hazardous if they come into contact with humans. Be sure to check out a safety guide before you get in the water.
