About Phillip Island
Phillip Island is a popular tourist and vacation destination about two hours from the city of Melbourne. Positioned on the southern coast, this island possesses breathtaking beauty and once in a lifetime experiences that won’t be found anywhere else. Bikers, racers, and automotive aficionados will be right at home as the area is known for its racing tracks.
Summerland Beach is the place to go at sunset. Not only is the beach gorgeous but it’s also home to a penguin colony. Every night at sunset, 6:30 p.m. on the dot normally, the penguins all at once will start to make their way home for the night—it is literally a parade of Little Penguins. You can see them solo or take a guided tour. There are companies that have tunneled under the penguin’s track to make underground observation decks to see the penguins at eye-level. When you’ve had your fill of these precious creatures head to The Nobbies (another spectacular spot for a view) to see the largest Fur Seal colony in Australia, basking in the surf. Churchill Island Heritage Farm
Originally farmed by Aboriginal peoples, the Churchill Farm was the first cultivated land in what is modern day Australia. The compound still maintains and processes the land almost exactly how it was back in antiquated times. It’s a great day for anyone interested in history, farming, or animals. There are wagon rides for the kids, cow milking, sheep shearing, whip cracking, and wallaby viewing. Visitors learn all about the history and operation of the farm. After the activities, find your way to the café for lunch and the gift shop.
