This ski town is at the base of Whitefish Mountain, tucked between glacier carved pathways of valleys of the mountain pass. The resort area is a short drive away from Glacier National Park with other national parks like Flathead National Forest to see along the way. Locals and tourists alike typically enjoy outdoor activities like ice fishing, skiing, hiking, and swimming. There are a few local breweries to enjoy and shops and restaurants on Central Avenue to pursue for unique gifts.
Whitefish Mountain Resort
Most people come to this area in the winter months for the skiing. Whitefish Mountain offers ski and snowboard classes ranging from beginner to expert level, eleven chairlifts, surface lifts, and night skiing. In the warmer months there are trails and bike paths that wind through the valleys and into the heart of Flathead Forest. There is also a white-sand lake that offers boat and equipment rentals during the hot seasons. Check out their website for more details: http://skiwhitefish.com/.
Huckleberry Days Arts Festival
This is an annual event which attracts vacationers from all over the United States. A minimum of 120 vendors, artists, craftsmen, and musicians take over Central Avenue, Whitefish’s Main Street, in mid-August for a weekend and sell their wares. It’s a great opportunity for family fun or to pick up the perfect gift for friends back home. And, of course, the huckleberry food fare is not to be missed. Best of all: The festival is free admission. Here’s their website for more details: http://www.whitefishchamber.org/huckleberry-days.
